The US Medical Marijuana Chamber of Commerce on Monday announced its endorsement of President Barack Obama. The group, which has 10,000 members across the country, is pushing to legalize and tax marijuana, saying the move will tremendously help the economy.
“The economic potential of the cannabis business in the U.S. is limitless and President Obama understands this. It is our impression that Mr. Romney just doesn’t get it,” said Thomas Leto III, president and founder of the group, explaining the group’s reason for backing Obama.
If Obama indeed understands the benefits of legalizing medical marijuana, his own government doesn’t seem to stand with him on this. In recent years, federal enforcers have cracked down on medical marijuana dispensaries, threatening them with lawsuits if they do not close down.
